Did you know that year after year, we're using less water in the Tampa Bay area? So why can't we sprinkle our lawns until the wee hours, or wash our cars at all?
It's all about supply and demand.
The Floridan Aquifer, which underlies most of the state, provides most of the Bay area's water. But the area's public utilities, which is where most households get their water, use more surface water than any region in Florida - and those supplies are nearing all-time lows after 10 years of drought or near-drought.
When it comes to water use, the stingiest households in Florida are in Okeechobee County and the most profligate are in Palm Beach County. Sarasota is the second-stingiest among Florida's 67 counties, and Hillsborough is 17th.
