Gov. Charlie Crist has named Karen Pesce of Tampa and Julie Ryczek of Treasure Island as Points of Light in honor of March's Fitness/Nutrition Awareness Month.
Pesce is executive director of More Health Inc., a nonprofit health education program that serves 200,000 local schoolchildren a year. As a member of the Florida Action for Healthy Kids Partnership, she helped secure a $25,000 grant to promote wellness in Hillsborough County. She also co-chairs the Hillsborough County School Health Advisory Committee.
Ryczek, a teacher at Bay Point Elementary in St. Petersburg, serves on the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness. Her work as wellness coordinator for Pinellas County schools has helped students succeed in the Governor's Fitness Challenge and NFL Play 60 What Moves You Challenge.
