TAMPA - A 17-year-old Wimauma boy shot three people in a crowd gathered for a street fight, Hillsborough County deputies say.
The teen, Juan C. Ventura, was charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated battery with a firearm.
Deputies arrested Ventura at 10:35 p.m. Sunday at Columbus Drive and Falkenburg Road.
During the course of a fight March 12 at 608 Fourth Ave. S.E., Ventura pulled out a gun and fired several shots, striking three people, sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
A 17-year-old was shot in the lower right torso and another 17-year-old was shot in the top of the scalp. Genaro Luero, 18, had a superficial gunshot wound to his stomach. The teen shot in the scalp was taken to Tampa General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Carter said. Details on that boy's condition weren't immediately available.
Ventura told investigators that members of the West Side Latin Kings were trying to fight, Carter said. Details on whether Ventura is affiliated with a gang were unavailable.
He remained in Orient Road Jail today. His bail has not been set.
