OCALA - Marion County students will be required to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance, a decision announced after district officials decided against altering guidelines listed in the student code of conduct.

Superintendent of Schools Jim Yancey says wording that required students to stand during the pledge will be restored to the code. Dozens of veterans attended a school board meeting on Tuesday to protest the proposed change.

The board will vote on the student code — with the restored Pledge of Allegiance guidelines — in May.

Yancey said he would hold an additional meeting on Monday afternoon to discuss the matter.
