NEW PORT RICHEY - A 71-year-old woman was attacked in the parking lot of the Ross store at Little Road and State Road 54 this afternoon, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said.
Reports indicate a man began beating the woman with a gun after she refused to give him money. A couple tried to intervene but the attacker pointed his gun at the husband and demanded his keys.
The attacker fled in the couple's blue 2007 Dodge Caravan and picked up another person at some point.
Investigators haven't released the victim's name or condition.
About 35 minutes after the attack outside Ross, two people entered the Medicine Shoppe at 10720 S.R. 54 and attempted to rob the store. The store's pharmacist struggled with one of the robbers and wrestled a rifle or shotgun away. A shot was fired but no one was injured.
Investigators believe the two incidents are related.
Authorities are looking for the Dodge Caravan with Ohio plate BW54WS. Anyone who sees the vehicle should call their local law enforcement agency immediately.
Investigators don't have descriptions of the two suspects, who are considered armed and dangerous, sheriff's office spokesman Kevin Doll said.
