LAKELAND - Rain postponed most of the finals of the Class 1A-District 9 boys tennis tournament Tuesday at the Kelly Recreational Complex, but not before Berkeley Prep's Zach Bandes won the No. 2 singles title.
Bandes rallied to defeat Tampa Prep's Nate Palombo 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
In No. 1 singles, Tampa Prep's Alex Hallenbeck led Berkeley's Brian Shim 6-3, 4-3 before the match was suspended until today.
Tampa Prep leads the team standings with 20 points, while Berkeley Prep has 18.
In the 1A-9 girls tournament, Berkeley leads with 18 points, followed by Tampa Prep with 15 and Winter Haven All Saints' with 14.
Berkeley's Amanda Morejon defeated Cambridge's Grace Keen 6-2, 6-2 to win the No. 2 singles title. Berkeley's Sophia Kim beat Lakeland Santa Fe's Alex Hall 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3, and Anne Baldy got another singles title for Berkeley by stopping Cambridge's Sara Dreier 6-0, 6-2.
