TAMPA - The NHL will hold the draft lottery tonight to determine the order for the first 14 picks of the entry draft to be held June 25-26 in Montreal. The lottery will be broadcast on Versus at 8 p.m. and will stream live on NHL.com.
The weighted lottery system allows the winning team to move up no more than four spots, which means only the bottom five teams - New York Islanders, Tampa Bay, Colorado, Atlanta and Los Angeles - are eligible to win the coveted No. 1 overall spot.
The Lightning, who finished 29th among 30 teams in the overall standings, have an 18.8 percent chance of winning the lottery and moving up to the top spot. In the hopes of keeping the good fortune rolling from last year's lottery, which Tampa Bay won to retain the top pick, the Lightning will send former captain Dave Andreychuk to represent them during the proceedings.
"Dave Andreychuk is going to bring the good luck again, hopefully ... he did it last year," General Manager Brian Lawton said.
