LAND O' LAKES - Environmental activist Clay Colson has filed a second challenge to T. Rowe Price's plans for an office complex off State Road 54.
The financial services firm has proposed building a three-building, 450,000-square-foot campus on the southwest corner of S.R. 54 and Sunlake Boulevard. The company has more than $30 million in state and local subsidies to encourage the project.
Colson, acting in the name of citizensforsanity .com, asked the state this week to hold another hearing to challenge T. Rowe Price's development permit, issued last month by the Southwest Florida Water Management District.
In his latest filing, Colson says the developer failed to properly identify wetlands on its property and omitted some that should have been included in its permit application.
Colson filed his first appeal of the T. Rowe Price project in March, contending the developer failed to show the project won't adversely affect water quality in the area. That appeal is in process at the state's Division of Administrative Hearings.
On Monday, Colson's attorney, John R. Thomas, quit the first case, citing irreconcilable differences with his client. Colson has told the judge he plans to go forward without an attorney.
