TALLAHASSEE - A united Florida Senate has passed a $65.6 billion state budget.
The chamber voted unanimously Thursday for a budget bill (SB 2600) that includes a $1-a-pack increase in Florida's cigarette tax and other new revenue-generating provisions not in the House's spending plan.
The House also began floor action on its budget that would spend $549 million less than the Senate's version during the fiscal year beginning July 1.
Both chambers are controlled by Republicans. While Democrats supported the Senate budget, they were expected to oppose the House plan.
