TAMPA - It was supposed to be a tight battle between one of New York's best high school baseball programs, Xaverian, and one of Tampa's top schools, Jesuit.
It turned out to be a Wednesday night blowout, 11-1 in favor of the hometown Tigers, who not only improved to 20-0, but firmly made a statement for their No. 1 ranking in several national polls.
Xaverian managed only two hits against Jesuit starter Willi Martin, who improved to 8-0 after the 10-run rule shortened game to five innings.
Jesuit put the game out of reach in the second inning, scoring 10 runs on six hits, two walks, two stolen bases and two errors. The final two runs scored on freshman third baseman Lance McCullers' home run over the right-field fence.
