TAMPA - TAMPA - University of South Florida men's basketball assistant Byron Samuels will not be on the Bulls' staff next season.

It's not clear whether Samuels was fired by USF coach Stan Heath or decided to leave the program on his own.

"Next week I will have a clear picture about my staff and will comment at that time," Heath said.

Samuels did not return calls seeking comment.

Samuels, 44, was hired by Heath two years ago when Heath came to USF. Heath has had the same staff during his two seasons at USF, going 21-41 overall and 7-29 in the Big East.

Samuels came to USF from Radford, where he resigned as head coach in 2007 after five seasons. He also was a head coach at Hampton for two seasons (1995-97) and had a seven-year head coaching record of 75-123.

Samuels also had been an assistant at Radford, Tennessee, Washington State and North Carolina Wilmington.
