Clearwater man charged in motel slaying

A 31-year-old Clearwater man has been arrested in Minneapolis in connection with a slaying in a Clearwater motel last year.

Ryeneil O. Daniels, of 1412 Taft Ave., faces a charge of second-degree murder, said Elizabeth Watts, Clearwater's public safety spokeswoman.

Charles E. Harris, 44, of 915 Nicholson St., was found dead on March 17, 2008, in a room at the Clearwater Palms Motel, 1735 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd., Watts said. There had been a fight in the room, and an autopsy revealed Harris had died from strangulation and blunt trauma.

Daniels was identified as a suspect but he fled to the Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area, Watts said. He was arrested there yesterday and is expected to be extradited to Florida, she said.
