LAKELAND - Lakeland police are trying to determine the identity of a woman found suffocated to death.
Because the body is badly decomposed, investigators say they are having difficulty identifying the woman who was found Thursday behind an Amtrak station. A man waiting for a train discovered the body.
The medical examiner's office has ruled that the woman died of asphyxiation and had been dead for a several days.
Police say they are investigating her death as a homicide and are still working to determine where and when she was killed.
