This proposed state tax on the cigar industry is outright gender bias.
By a large proportion, more men chomp on cigars than women. If you want to keep the playing field even, then also place an equivalent tax on nail salons. Of course, you will then hear outrage from the female gender defending their vanity - fingernail luxury - but that would be a fair tax across the board for all.
The cigar industry in Tampa is our culture and history; please don't destroy it. Bottom line: State government needs to get its financial appetite in order and quit taxing successful businesses for its financial shortcomings.
