DADE CITY - A 32-year-old man was arrested early Thursday in the fatal shooting of a bicyclist last weekend, police said.
William Lee Chamblee, of 13500 Hillsborough Ave., turned himself in late Wednesday in connection with the slaying of 37-year-old Charles A. Simonds. He is charged with second-degree murder.
Dade City police Capt. David Duff said Chamblee's mother brought her son to the police station after meeting with investigators herself.
Simonds, of 13705 23rd St., was riding a bicycle north on 21st Street late Sunday when Chamblee drove up behind him, a police report says. The two exchanged words and Chamblee then shot Simonds four times in the upper torso, police said.
Witnesses said they heard shots and saw what appeared to be a sport utility vehicle leaving the area.
Investigators did not release a motive for the shooting. Duff said the two men knew each other.
