Woman killed in I-275 crash identified

The Florida Highway Patrol has released the name of a woman who was killed Thursday night in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 275.

Rita A. Carter, 44, of Warwick, R.I., was a passenger in a 2006 GMC pickup driven by Thomas J. Bishop, 40, of Spring Hill was on I-275 just south of Interstate 75 about 7 p.m. when Bishop lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons.

The truck went onto the outside shoulder, overturned and crashed into several trees. Both Bishop and the woman, who were not wearing seat belts, were thrown from the vehicle, according to the release.

Warwick and Bishop were taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

Warwick died of her injuries at the hospital, the patrol said.
