TAMPA - Steve Dickey creates sculptures people seem keen to possess.
Last year, someone wrenched the bronze bust he had made of Adela Gonzmart, the Columbia restaurant matriarch, from a pedestal outside the landmark Ybor City restaurant.
This week, someone waltzed off with an abstract wood-and-steel depiction of a cello from the foyer of his Beach Park house, Dickey said.
"I thought, being in my house, I wouldn't have to bolt it down," he said Friday.
The sculpture is about 3 feet tall and worth about $3,500, Dickey said. He noticed it missing Thursday morning and thinks it vanished Wednesday, when workers renovating his house left the foyer doors open to circulate air.
The sculpture could have been seen by anyone passing by, he said. It was displayed on a 4-foot-tall pedestal.
Anyone with information about the sculpture is asked to call Tampa police at (813) 231-6130.
Reporter Josh Poltilove and News Channel 8 reporter Samara Sodos contributed to this report. Reporter Valerie Kalfrin can be reached at (813) 259-7800.
