SAINT LEO - As a reward for its best lacrosse season in the four-year history of the program, Saint Leo had a total of eight players named to the All-Deep South Conference teams this week.
Midfielder Kyle Marceau, faceoff specialist Mike Del Buono, defenseman Eric Rahe and goalkeeper David Erdman all earned first-team honors for the Lions (9-3, 4-1). Honorable mentions included SLU leading scorer and reigning conference player of the week Benjamin Brigham, Mark Dargon, Ryu Arakawa and Pat LoGiudice.
Marceau was fourth in the league with 1.5 assists per game. Del Buono won 109 of 174 face-offs. Rahe led a stout Lions defense that allowed a league-low 7.39 goals per game. Erdman posted a .579 save percentage and made an average of 10.76 saves per contest.
Mars Hill, which beat the Lions in overtime and finished regular-season conference play undefeated, had the Player of the Year (Danny Farmer), Freshman of the Year (Chris Cudmore) and Coach of the Year (Sean Woods).

BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD: The men's and women's tennis teams were shut out in the opening round of their Sunshine State Conference tournaments this week. Both teams came in seeded seventh. The men lost 5-0 to Barry, and the women lost by the same score to Florida Southern.
Both teams were forced into the back draw of their tournaments, where the men were eliminated 5-0 by Eckerd Friday morning in Boca Raton, finishing the season 4-18. The women (9-15) played Florida Tech in the afternoon. The result was not available at press time.
LION TIDBITS: The Saint Leo softball team (26-20, 5-10 SSC) is coming off an 11-day layoff for this weekend's series at Nova Southeastern. The Lions will be trying to snap a six-game losing streak dating to March 31. ... The baseball team notched a 13-3 win against perennial SSC powerhouse Tampa last week, but dropped the next two in the series against the Spartans to enter this weekend's games against Flagler 15-29, 5-13 in SSC play. ... Community college women's golf prospect Jordan Hatch signed a letter-of-intent with the Lions after coming off a victory in the 87-player McKendree Invitational in Illinois, which included a career-best round of 69.
