ORLANDO - King senior forward Toarlyn Fitzpatrick is back on the market.
After helping the South All-Stars defeat the North 110-82 at the Florida Athletic Coaches Association North vs. South All-Star Classic on Saturday, Fitzpatrick said he has requested a release from his letter-of-intent to Georgia Southern.
Fitzpatrick, a 6-foot-8 power forward who led King to the Class 5A state final four this past season, signed with the Eagles and Coach Jeff Price in November. Price resigned in March following an 8-22 season, and Fitzpatrick has had a change of heart.
"Once I get my release, I'll see who wants to offer me a scholarship," he said. "I think my stock has gone up."
Before committing to the Eagles, Fitzpatrick had several scholarship offers, which included Florida State, Miami, Tulane, East Tennessee State and Western Kentucky.
Lakewood senior guard Shamon Cox was named the South MVP after scoring 14 points, along with two steals. Fitzpatrick added 10 points and eight rebounds while Plant senior guard Sheldon Cooley finished with six points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Academy of the Holy Names senior guard Katie Davis scored seven points with five assists and two steals to help the South girls team defeat the North 75-72.
"It was fun," Davis said. "I thought my last high school game would be that loss in the district tournament to St. Pete Catholic, but it was here with a win."
COACHING CHANGES: Lennard boys varsity basketball coach Joe Willis will be the new head coach at Bloomingdale.
Meanwhile, East Bay coach Stan Conley has resigned after eight years as head coach.
