A crew member on a cruise ship 290 miles southwest of Tampa suffered a head injury this afternoon but was safely evacuated by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The woman was taken to Tampa General Hospital about 7 p.m. after being hoisted by a Coast Guard helicopter crew based out of Clearwater, Petty Officer Rob Simpson said in a written statement. Her condition is not known.
Crew members aboard the Carnival Legend contacted the Seventh Coast Guard District's command center about noon today, saying the 29-year-old woman had a serious head injury, Simpson said.
