TAMPA - The Indian Rocks Christian softball team finds itself in a familiar place - the Class 2A-District 9 final.

After beating Bishop McLaughlin 8-1 in the semifinals Monday night at the University of Tampa, the Golden Eagles will face the winner of tonight's Calvary Christian-Tampa Prep matchup.

Last season, Tampa Prep beat IRC 9-1 in the district final.

"They don't quit," IRC coach Phil Farver said of his team. "They play because they love it. They give a 100-percent effort every time. ... If we would have been behind 8-1, they would have been screaming, trying to come back."

This victory was a far cry from the two previous regular-season meetings. IRC won 16-2 and 10-0 in five-inning, mercy-rule-shortened games.

The Golden Eagles' first run came on a high, infield chopper by Ali Armstrong, driving in Dominique Miller. In the bottom of the third, IRC (11-5) distanced itself with three runs, two of which were scored on errors.

Bishop McLaughlin (5-12) got its lone run on an inside-the-park home run by shortstop Amy Szymanowski. The freshman poked a shot up the right-field line, which rolled into the corner of the outfield fence, allowing her to motor around the bases.

"My girls worked hard," Hurricanes coach John Yaratch said. "They probably played the best they've played all year."
