TAMPA - Mayor Pam Iorio will mark Earth Day by unveiling a new recycling program today.
Working with the Tampa Downtown Partnership, the city will place 20 receptacles for recycling plastic and aluminum throughout downtown and the Channel District.
Dozens of green receptacles will be placed along well-traveled pedestrian corridors.
The program will cost about $15,000 a year, and the money will come from Community Redevelopment Funds, said Bob McDonaugh, the city's urban development manager.
Iorio plans to unveil the program at an event at Lykes Gaslight Square.
Other Earth Day events are planned around the Tampa Bay area.
The Hillsborough County School District will hold numerous events today and throughout the week, many involving projects that students have worked on during the school year.
