BROOKSVILLE - A motorcycle passenger was killed and the driver critically injured today when their vehicle struck a tractor-trailer, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Theresa Boudreau, 73, of Zephyrhills, died at the scene of the crash on State Road 50 and Kettering Road, the patrol said. John A. Boudreau, 73, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa in critical condition.
According to the patrol, the Boudreaus were riding their 2007 Yamaha westbound in the outside lane of S.R. 50 about 2 p.m. when they approached a traffic signal on Kettering. A 1999 Volvo tractor-trailer driven by John Lee Gray, 67, of Georgia, was in the inside lane of westbound S.R. 50 and overtaking the motorcycle.
Traffic slowed in front of the Yamaha and John Boudreau tried to move into the inside lane. The Yamaha struck the side of the Volvo and the Boudreaus, who were wearing helmets, were thrown from the motorcycle.
Gray was not injured.
The investigation continues.
