Mayor Pam Iorio marked Earth Day by unveiling a new recycling program that will place receptacles for recycling plastic and aluminum downtown and in the Channel District. Iorio said the 20 new bins will give pedestrians a place to throw plastic bottles, tins cans and other recyclables instead of tossing them into a garbage can. The city has teamed up with the Tampa Downtown Partnership on a program that will cost about $15,000 a year. More receptacles are planned in the future.
