Steer clear of northbound I-275 this weekend

Avoid Interstate 275 northbound from the West Shore area to downtown Tampa this weekend, or add at least an hour to your trip, warns the state Department of Transportation. Beginning this evening, DOT crews will shift traffic to the new northbound I-275 lanes - those that have been under construction for months.
"Traffic backups on the I-275 corridor will be extensive and likely will reach into Pinellas County," spokesman John McShaffrey said.
By Monday, three northbound lanes will be open and the Himes Avenue entrance ramp that has been closed since December will open. Additional lanes and shoulder widths will not open until fall.
