Jaguars' offensive line gets upgrade

JACKSONVILLE - The Jaguars upgraded their offensive line with their two picks in Saturday's draft, selecting Virginia's Eugene Monroe with the eighth pick and Arizona's Eben Britton with the 39th pick.

The team hopes the 6-foot-5, 316-pound Monroe will be a cornerstone at left tackle for a team retooling its roster after cleaning house this offseason.

Monroe is the first offensive lineman drafted by Jacksonville in the first round since Tony Boselli in 1995. Boselli turned out to be a five-time Pro Bowl selection.

The Jaguars can only hope for the same from Monroe, who is expected to step in for Khalif Barnes at left tackle. Jacksonville parted ways with Barnes after last season, then signed three-time Pro Bowl left tackle Tra Thomas last month.

Now, the 34-year-old Thomas likely will move to right tackle or serve as a mentor for Monroe.

The 6-foot-5, 317-pound Britton played right tackle for two seasons before moving to the left side as a junior. He is expected to compete with Tony Pashos at right tackle.
