TAMPA - Purdue is the leader in the Robert Marve sweepstakes to land the former University of Miami and Plant High quarterback, ESPN.com reported.
"The Boilermakers currently are Marve's clear top choice, followed by Arizona State, with USF and Nebraska less likely," the report attributes to a "person close to Marve."
Marve is seeking a new school after announcing in December he was transferring from Miami.
Plant High coach Robert Weiner and Eugene Marve, Marve's father, could not immediately be reached for comment.
Two weeks ago, Weiner told the Tampa Tribune that Marve had reduced the number of schools he was considering to five: Arizona State, Nebraska, Purdue, Texas Tech and USF. Marve was scheduled to visit ASU, Nebraska and Texas Tech in the past week. He already has visited Purdue and USF.
Marve, who would have to sit out the 2009 season at his new school, would have two years eligibility remaining in 2010 and 2011. He's expected to make a decision where he will transfer in May.
