CLEARWATER - Mitchell High's Patrick Schuster lost his bid for a fifth consecutive no-hitter when Gaither's Drew Doty lined a double to right field in the top of the third inning of Tuesday's Class 6A-District 7 baseball semifinal at Countryside High.

Gaither ended up defeating Mitchell, 9-4, to end Schuster and the Mustangs' season.

After making it through the first two innings, Schuster hit Mike Danner in the face to lead off the third. Doty followed with the double. That ended a hitless string of 28 1/3 innings for Schuster.

Schuster was taken out after five innings with his team trailing, 5-4. Schuster allowed four earned runs and three hits. He wlked five, hit three batters and struck out five.

After a shaky top of the first inning in which Schuster allowed a run on two walks, a hit by pitch and two errors by his teammates, the left-hander settled down in the second inning. Schuster retired all three batters he faced.

Schuster entered the game with an 8-0 record and a 0.64 ERA.
