Firefighters had to act fast this morning to keep a boat fire from spreading to two homes in Dunedin.
The 22-foot boat on a trailer was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 514 Lexington St. at 1:43 a.m.
Firefighters used foam and water to put out the fire and keep it from spreading to two homes within 10 feet of the blaze. The homes received only slight damage to their sidings, said Division Chief Bill McElligott with the Dunedin Fire Department.
The fire caused about $6,500 in damage, McElligott said. No one was injured, and the residents were able to go back into their homes this morning.
The cause of the boat fire is under investigation.
