Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies saved a man this evening who was threatening to jump off a business on Fletcher Avenue.

According to the sheriff's office, the man was on top of the Family Dollar Store at 102 Fletcher Avenue at about 7:45 p.m.. Deputy Mark Longway and Corporal Bryan Taylor climbed the 25-30 foot building by ladder.

The pair talked to the man, who kept saying he wanted to kill himself. When he said he was thirsty, they persuaded him to sit down while they got him some water.

When the man sat down, Longway and Taylor rushed him and pulled him away from the roof's edge.

The man, who was in his 50s, was taken to St. Joseph's hospital for a mental and physical evaluation.
