TAMPA - The U.S. Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal by Hillsborough County bikini bars over a county law restricting such businesses.
The 2006 county ordinance requires exotic dancers to stay 6 feet away from patrons. The law also prohibits the sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages at adult businesses.
Three bars – Tootsies, Showgirls and Showgirls Men's Club – filed a lawsuit after the county adopted the new rules.
In September, the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower-court decision granting Hillsborough County a summary judgment against the bikini bars.
The decision supported the county's argument that rules restricting exotic dancers from touching customers are not unconstitutional.
