TAMPA - Darryl C. Casanueva has been named chief judge-elect of Florida's 2nd District Court of Appeal.
The Tampa native and Port Charlotte resident was selected by his colleagues on the appeals bench. He will start a two-year term July 1 and replaces Judge Stevan T. Northcutt of Tampa.
"I am honored and humbled to be selected by my fellow judges," Casanueva said in a statement.
Casanueva, 57, is a graduate of the University of South Florida and received his law degree from Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans.
He was appointed to the appeals court by then-Gov. Lawton Chiles and has served since Feb. 4, 1998. He previously was an assistant state attorney for the 20th Judicial Circuit and was twice elected a circuit court judge.
