NEW PORT RICHEY - A man who struck and killed a 21-year-old pedestrian in 2007 pleaded guilty last week to DUI-manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident involving death, according to court records.
Michael Velardocchia, 23, of Spring Hill, was sentenced to eight years in prison followed by 10 years of probation. He was also ordered to complete 1,000 hours of community service.
Authorities said Velardocchia was driving drunk Feb. 21, 2007, when he hit Gerrard Robinson as he was walking south on U.S. 41. Velardocchia's 2005 Ford Expedition overturned. He ran from the scene but was caught with the help of a canine unit.
