DADE CITY - A 33-year-old man was arrested Saturday after authorities found a possible pipe bomb in a stolen pickup he was occupying, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office said.
Timothy Eugene Kelly, of Dade City, has been charged with grand theft and making a destructive device.
Deputies responded to a complaint about a suspicious vehicle about 3:40 a.m. near U.S. 301 and Atwater Road, north of Dade City, the sheriff's office said. Kelly was in a Ford F-250 that deputies determined was stolen.
The Tampa Bay Regional Bomb Squad was called in and neutralized the object.
"It was dangerous enough to be confiscated and destroyed," said Kevin Doll, sheriff's spokesman.
