A student was teased because of how he looked. Another was pressured to cheat, while another was harassed via the Internet.
These are scenarios that play out every day in schools across the country, and now they are taking center stage at the Carrollwood Cultural Center.
The Play 'n Around Traveling Children's Theatre is presenting "Bullyproof," an original production that tackles the issue of bullying. The play, running Sunday, tells the story of Penelope Jane, a student struggling with a bully who is terrorizing her and her friends.
The interactive production tackles the issues of recognizing the actions of a bully, the types of bullying and how to deal with a bully.
"We want to empower the children to take a stand for themselves," said Brad Colley, who helped create the play and performs some of the characters. "This will give them the tools to discuss the issue and how to deal with it."
The production is at 3 p.m. Sunday and tickets are $7 for members, $10 for nonmembers and free for children age 4 and younger. For information, visit www.carrollwoodcenter.org.
