Robles Elementary janitor charged with lewd conduct

TAMPA - A Robles Elementary janitor has been charged with lewd and lascivious conduct involving an 8-year-old student in the school's after-school program, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Otis Vinson, of Tampa, was alone in a room with the girl at around 4:45 p.m. May 29, the sheriff's office said.

He is accused of picking her up and holding the girl next to him in a lewd way, the sheriff's office said.

The girl was clothed, the sheriff's office said.

The girl later told her mother of the incident.

Vinson, 43, was arrested Saturday and released on $7,500 bail on the same day.

Hillsborough County School District sent Vinson home and asked him not to return to the school once it learned of the incident, said Steve Hegarty, the district's spokesman.

Now that Vinson has been charged, the school board typically votes for an unpaid suspension until the case reaches a resolution in the court system, Hegarty said.
