TAMPA - Eight Falkenburg Road Jail inmates have been tested for swine flu, but there are no confirmed cases of the illness within the jail, said Col. Jim Previtera of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The test results of two of those inmates are expected back later today.
Twenty-four inmates are in respiratory isolation for an array of reasons, from recent travel to Mexico to flulike symptoms to contact with people confirmed to have the swine flu.
"We have no confirmed cases of swine flu," sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
The first potential case of swine flu at the jail came last week, when a 24-year-old inmate was taken to an infirmary and placed in respiratory isolation, deputies say.
Last week, Pinellas County jail officials said seven inmates there have tested positive for swine flu.
