TERRA CEIA - A handful of Manatee County convenience stores and gas stations have spent the day dubbing surveillance tapes from Monday evening, the night Dr. James Briles came home from work and reported finding his wife, Kathleen, dead.
Pulling surveillance video is common in the search for a criminal. Detectives have not released the name or description of the person they are looking for in the videos.
The sheriff's office did confirm today that Sheriff Brad Steube has returned from vacation to help handle the case. Steube met with Kathleen Briles's family.
He also plans to hold a meeting this afternoon with those involved in the investigation to review the facts and whether to release any additional information to the public.
This afternoon Steube announced that the sheriff's office will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. tomorrow at its headquarters, 600 U.S. 301 Blvd. W., Bradenton, to update the public on the investigation.
James Briles works at the North River Family Health Center in Palmetto. Kathleen, 48, built a reputation as a caring, involved resident known for taking in stray cats near her island home. She was recently elected as the as the vice president of the Bradenton Toastmasters Club. Kathleen has a grown son serving in Iraq.
