St. Petersburg authorities are investigating a man's fall at Tropicana Field on Wednesday night as the game between the Tampa Bay Rays and Boston Red Sox drew to a close.
The man was watching the game from the stadium's third level with his family, and when he boarded an escalator to get to the lower level, he hopped up on the railing and tried to ride it sidesaddle, St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue Lt. Joel Granata said.
"He fell about 40 feet onto concrete," Granata said.
The man, identified as Jason Graham, 27, of 6710 Ellenton Gillette Road in Palmetto, suffered broken bones in both his legs and other injuries, police said.
At least one witness reported Graham was sitting sidesaddle on the handrail of the escalator when he fell to the floor below.
Graham was taken to Bayfront Medical Center as a trauma alert with serious injuries, Granata said. His condition has improved, police said, and he was listed in good condition this afternoon.
No foul play was suspected, police said.
Through a hospital spokeswoman, Graham declined to be interviewed.
