TALLAHASSEE - A congressional leader says Florida ranks last in spending federal highway stimulus money.
House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman James Oberstar, D-Minn., wrote Crist today urging him to "refocus your efforts."
Oberstar's letter said Florida had begun construction of projects totaling only 2 percent of its stimulus funding as of June 30.
That's 51st among the 50 states and District of Columbia.
Florida Assistant Transportation Secretary Kevin Thibault said 17 of the state's 45 projects now are under contract but the problem has been with 395 local government projects scattered across Florida.
