TAMPA - On-time performance improved for flights at Tampa International Airport in June compared with a year ago, despite one arrival that spent four hours, 35 minutes on the tarmac at Washington Dulles International Airport during stormy weather.
Departing flights from Tampa were on time 80 percent of the time in June, compared with 76 percent in June 2008, according to data from the federal Bureau of Transportation Research.
Arriving flights were on time 79 percent of the time, compared with 74 percent a year ago.
On time is defined as within 15 minutes of schedule.
Nationwide, flight performance improved in June compared with a year ago, but bad weather contributed to June being the worst month for on-time performance since December.
The most frequent reasons for delays were weather, airport congestion and equipment problems.
