TAMPA - Nothing new.
A week into training camp, the mysterious absence of Arron Sears continues to serve as a shadowy backdrop for the 2009 Buccaneers.
Second-year pro Jeremy Zuttah is taking snaps with the first unit at left guard while Sears remains AWOL, with no explanation from the team except to say he is dealing with personal issues.
"Nothing has changed," GM Mark Dominik said Friday as players stretched for morning practice. "We have had good discussions with Arron's agent (Sean Kiernan) and we're in constant contact with him. I would never classify this as a bizarre situation. It's something we're dealing with as an organization."
Sears was placed on the Reserved-Did Not Report List and he is eligible to return at any time.
"We've left the door open for Arron to come back," said Dominik. "I'll give Bruce Allen and Jon Gruden credit for drafting Zuttah last year and having a guy ready and prepared to step in. Now we're hoping our young guys look at this as an opportunity to compete."
