Media Enterprises, the company that markets Mighty Putty, is making plans to eventually find a new pitchman to replace Billy Mays, who died June 28.
A spokeswoman says it's too early to say what might happen because the company is in the early stages of discussions.
Reportedly a nationwide search will begin in August in Tampa but auditions will be by invitation only, the spokeswoman said.
No date has been set, she said.
The Web site TMZ.com is reporting that the hunt will begin Aug. 19.
Mays, a Tampa resident, died in June of a heart attack.
Many of the commercials that were filmed before his death continue to air.
According to TMZ, the first product for the new pitchman would be the Mighty Sponge, a sponge supposedly so strong it can absorb a 2-liter bottle of Coke.
