TAMPA - Airline baggage charges are the least-justified of the a la carte fees that passengers must contend with, according to a recent survey of 1,800 travelers.
However, only 6 percent of respondents said that none of the fees enacted in recent years on services ranging from Internet connections to accommodating unaccompanied minors is justified, the survey by airfarewatchdog.com found.
Most airlines have imposed multiple fees to add to dwindling revenue streams during the recession.
Among the other survey findings:
•25 percent of respondents said fees for in-flight Internet service are justified.
•24 percent said fees of up to $175 each way for pets in the cabin are justified.
•21 percent said fees of up to $99 each way for unaccompanied minors are justified.
•3 percent said fees for checked baggage are justified.
