TAMPA - It's strike one for Davis Islands' newest multimillion-dollar resident.
The Davis Islands Civic Association board this week voted to oppose New York Yankees star Derek Jeter's request to erect a privacy fence in front of the 31,000-square-foot mansion he is building.
The board plans to ask the city's Variance Review Board, which meets Tuesday, to reject Jeter's proposal.
Calls to several association board members were not immediately returned. The 12-6 vote was reported on DIBuzz.com, which is operated by board member Ken Elmore.
City code allows a 3-foot solid wall and a 4-foot "barrier" on parcels with street frontage, so Jeter needs a variance to put up a 6-foot wrought-iron and concrete fence.
Jeter's seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom waterfront house could be the largest residence in Hillsborough County when completed.
