OXFORD - The man who owned an 8-foot Burmese python that suffocated a little girl last month has been arrested on drug charges.
Charles Jason Darnell allegedly twice sold undercover investigators cocaine. The 32-year-old was picked up Friday on several charges, including two counts of drug sales, two counts of possession with intent to sell and two counts of unlawful use of a communication device.
Darnell has been waiting to see if he would be charged in the July 1 death of 2-year-old Shaianna Hare. He was living with the girl, mother Jaren Hare and his 8-foot python. The snake somehow broke out of its terrarium and strangled the girl in her bedroom.
A medical examiner found bite marks on the 2-year-old's head and arms, but determined she died of asphyxiation.
