PLANT CITY - A popular downtown restaurant, the Whistle Stop cafe, is reopening Saturday after being closed for renovations.
Owner Jerry Lofstrom and his son Jeremy have been working with subcontractors to renovate the outdoor patio flooring and overhang, retile part of the interior and open four windows on the south wall that have been bricked in since 1952.
"The city has plans to upgrade the parking lot that sits to the south side," Lofstrom said. "Reopening those windows, keeping with the historic design, will brighten the south dining room and add to the authenticity of the design."
The building dates to the late 1800s.
The Whistle Stop, 102 S. Collins St., will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
