WESLEY CHAPEL - This year more than ever, organizers say, east Pasco's children need help with school supplies.
The nonprofit Projects of Pasco will give new backpacks filled with school supplies it collects with help from residents.
"I haven't yet counted up the kids who need our help," said Anna Fulk, executive director of Projects of Pasco. "But I know it's more than last year."
Those who wish to donate school supplies to Projects of Pasco should call (813) 788-3038. This is also the number to call for families who wish to register their children to receive supplies.
"We need notebooks, paper, index cards, backpacks," Fulk said.
It's important for every child to start the school year with the necessary supplies, Fulk said.
"It gives them more acceptance with other kids, more pride," she said. "When they get these supplies they want to go to school and learn."
Backpack distribution will take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Wesley Chapel Elementary.
