Kia T. Shaw, a 12-year-old from Land O' Lakes, is the newly crowned Miss Pre-Teen National Teenager 2010. Today, she'll visit pediatric patients at Tampa General Hospital's Children's Medical Center.
A seventh-grade honor student with citizenship awards from Thomas E. Weightman Middle School in Wesley Chapel, Kia won the Miss Pre-Teen National Teenager title along with a $2,500 academic scholarship in Nashville. Girls from across the United States competed in academics, community service, leadership, interview, personal expression, onstage question and evening wear.
Kia hopes to attend the University of South Florida and major in fine arts. She wants to be a model and actress - and possibly a clothing designer for the stars, a news release stated. She is active in her church and volunteers with the Boys and Girls Clubs.
Kia also is the president and founder of Tampa Bay Tweens on a Mission, a community service organization that collects donations and distributes goods. Some of the items - teddy bears, crayons and coloring books - will be given to children at TGH.
