2 brothers shot by same bullet when cleaning gun

MANATEE COUNTY - Two brothers were shot by the same bullet that discharged from a weapon the 17-year-old brother was cleaning, according to a Manatee County sheriff's report.

Logan Ashley, 17, and Randall Ashley, 20, were both hospitalized early today after they were playing video games in their home on Bookelia Circle and decided to take apart a 9 mm pistol.

Logan was disassembling the gun about midnight and removed the magazine.

Deputies say he did not clear the chamber, though, and he pressed the trigger as he tried to remove the gun's slide.

The bullet went through his leg and struck his older brother Randall, 20, also in the leg. Paramedics took both brothers to the hospital; both are expected to make full recoveries.
